Marcio Lassiter believes that his San Miguel Beer team was no longer about the famed "Death Five" squad that he was once a part of and the team actually possessed much deeper lineup than what most people think.

Comparisons between the Beermen’s distinguished five that won eight championships in the late 2010s and its current lineup anchored on the frontline towers Bennie Boatwright and June Mar Fajardo became a topic while SMB is in the middle of an eight-game winning streak.
The winning run began in the eliminations and was extended to the quarterfinals up until the ongoing semifinals where the Beermen hold a 2-0 advantage over defending champion Barangay Ginebra.
“I’m not thinking of that nature,” commented Lassiter who sparked the Beermen’ 106-96 Game 2 win in the second half to finish with 16 points built on four triples.
“This is a very strong team that we have. We have 10 guys and even more. Some guys weren't playing so we have a really strong group and everyone can contribute,” added the veteran gunner who was one of SMB’s notable figures in the "Death Five" which also included Fajardo and Chris Ross.
Lassiter said the performance of Jeron Teng in Game 2 underscored how the entire bench of the Beermen are equally capable of taking a spot in the main five and contributing well to the team.
“Just look at Jeron Teng. He was huge for us off the bench, gave us great minutes so you’ll never know it can be everyone’s night for us,” Lassiter said of SMB’s offseason addition who played a key role in SMB’s fourth quarter breakaway.
“That’s the quality and the confidence in our team, having confidence in each and everyone of us and it showed tonight,” he added.
SMB head coach Jorge Gallent shared the same sentiment, stressing that his team is 15-man deep and everyone is a threat.
“Everybody is capable, there's no ‘Death Five’ here, it’s ‘Death 15’. Everybody is good here. They wouldn’t be here if they weren't good,” emphasized Gallent.
Indeed, the Beermen supporting cast is brimming with talent with Teng, Jericho Cruz, Don Trollano, Terrence Romeo and Mo Tautuaa, who can be a starting five on any mid-tier team, coming off the bench for SMB.
