Intel cop killed in motorcycle crash

BACOLOD CITY – A intelligence policeman applying for promotion died in a motorcycle crash in Crossing Roman, Barangay Tabao Rizal, San Enrique, Negros Occidental on Friday, January 26.

The victim was identified as Police Patrolman Israel Mahilum, 35, of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, an intelligence officer assigned to the Pontevedra (Negros Occidental) Municipal Police Station.

Police Major Leo Estopa, San Enrique police chief, said the victim driving a motorcycle on his way home when he crashed into the railings beside the road.

Estopa said the victim came from Iloilo City where he was processing his application for promotion when the accident happened.

He said that the victim might have dozed off due to exhaustion. Estopa said that a witness saw the victim’s motorcycle swerving while approaching the area.

The victim suffered head injuries despite wearing a helmet and was declared dead in a hospital.

Estopa said the victim’s valuables, including his police uniform, identification cards, and service firearm were intact.
