Influenza, dengue, typhoid, gastro cases drop in Pangasinan


LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Provincial Health Office has reported a decrease in the number of influenza, dengue fever, typhoid fever, and acute gastroenteritis cases in this province from January 1 to 22 compared to the same period last year.

Despite this downtrend, the PHO reminded the people to guard against illnesses, drink enough water, and practice proper hygiene.

Inter-local health zones (ILHZs) in the province reported that typhoid cases decreased by 60 percent. The towns of Bayambang, Malasiqui, Pozorrubio, and Santa Maria recorded one case each for a total of four in the first 22 days of January, down six than the 10 in the same period last year.

One-hundred forty-five influenza cases were recorded from January 1 to 22, down 18 percent, from 177 in 2023.

Alaminos City had the highest number of cases with 29, followed by Lingayen with 17 and Binmaley with 10.
Seventy-two persons were afflicted with dengue from January 1 to 22, a decrease of 11 cases or 13 percent compared to the same period in 2023 with 83.

However, an 11-year-old child from Binmaley died from dengue on January 9.

The PHO said acute gastroenteritis cases dropped by 23 percent or 113 from January 1 to January 22, to 373 from 486 in 2023.

San Carlos City had 25 cases, Calasiao, 23; Lingayen, 20; Mangaldan, 17; Bolinao, 15; Bayambang, 14, and Dasol, 13.
