Town police chief hurt in car accident


TACLOBAN CITY – A police officer was injured in a car crash in Calbayog City, Samar on Thursday, January 25.

The victim was identified as Police Lt. Jimmy Tubigan, 45, officer-in-charge of the San Antonio Municipal Police Station in Northern Samar.

Tubigan was driving a Sports Utility Vehicle when a six-wheel truck driven by a 33-year-old man from Santo Tomas, Batangas swerved to the left lane, rolled over, and hit the rear portion of the victim’s vehicle which crashed on the roadside.

His companions onboard the vehicle – Lt. Alberto Magloyuan, 54, OIC of San Vicente MPS, and Lt. Neil Fernandez, 54, OIC of Biri MPS, both in Northern Samar – were unharmed.

Tubigan was taken to the Lope de Vega, Samar Rural Health Unit and the driver of the forward truck was taken to the Calbayog City Police Station for proper disposition.

Both vehicles incurred damages and were also brought to the police station.

The truck driver faces a case of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury and damage to property.
