Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) was honored with the "Business Enabler Award" by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Quezon City (PCCI-QC).
Lumagui received the award during the PCCI-QC’s induction and turnover ceremonies on Jan. 25 in recognition of his significant impact on the business community of Quezon City.
"The BIR would like to express its gratitude to the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Quezon City. This "Business Enabler Award" is a very timely recognition of the efforts being made by BIR because for 2024 we are focusing on Taxpayer Service,” Lumagui said.
“This year, we will exert our efforts in improving our services within the framework of ease of doing business in the Philippines. The whole BIR is at your service,” he assured.
PCCI-QC said the Business Enabler Award is a testament to Lumagui’s significant impact on the business community.
“Your innovative strategies, leadership, and dedication have contributed to the success of your endeavors and positively influenced and enabled the success of other businesses in the city,” PCCI-QC said.
“Your unwavering commitment to excellence and your role as a catalyst for positive change have set you apart, and we believe it is essential to honor and celebrate your exceptional achievements,” it added.
In 2024, the BIR is set to place a strong emphasis on Lumagui's pillar of Excellent Taxpayer Service, supported by the recent passage of the Ease of Paying Taxes Act by the National Government.
Over the upcoming months, the BIR will undergo significant structural changes in its processes and requirements as it transitions into a service-oriented agency.
To that note, the BIR has jumpstarted its 2024 mission of Taxpayer Service by conducting the first ever nationwide Tax Compliance Verification Drive (TCVD) last January 18 and 19.
During the TCVD, examiners of the BIR visited 44,611 business establishments for the purpose of educating and guiding them in their tax compliance.
No penalties were meted by the BIR for this first incursion, as long as they comply with their tax obligations.
