PAGASA sees 'low chance' of tropical cyclone forming until end of January
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, Jan. 26 said there is a slim probability that a tropical cyclone will form or enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) until the end of the month.
PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the country will remain cyclone-free for the next few days, with the shear line and northeast monsoon dominating the weather systems.
He said the shear line is once again affecting Eastern Visayas and Caraga, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms to these areas.
Likewise, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” may bring cloudy skies with rains to Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Aklan, and Capiz.
Estareja warned of occasional moderate to heavy rains, which may result in flash floods or landslides in areas affected by the shear line and amihan.
Meanwhile, cloudy skies with light monsoon rains may persist in the Cordillera Administrative Region, while partly cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains may prevail throughout the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
The public is also warned of flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.
