The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRMC) conferred to the Las Piñas city government the Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence for outstanding performance in local disaster risk reduction management.
The award, which was presented to Mayor Imelda Aguilar on Thursday, Jan. 25, shows the city’s proactive approach to disaster risk management.
Aguilar said the city scored a 2.37 rating in the 23rd Gawad Kalasag Seal for Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and Offices (LDRRMCOs).
She said the city was awarded with Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence during the Gawad Kalasag national awarding ceremony on Dec. 11, 2023 held at the Manila Hotel.
The mayor said the honor underscores the city's compliance with the standards set by the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, also known as Republic Act No. 10121.
She said the city has implemented comprehensive disaster risk reduction programs, including regular drills, community awareness campaigns, and investments in infrastructure that mitigate the impact of natural calamities.
These initiatives, she pointed out, have been instrumental in preparing the city’s residents and institutions to effectively respond to emergencies.
The mayor said the recognition reflects the city’s dedication in achieving the highest standards of disaster preparedness to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its residents.
