Boracay Water, a subsidiary of Manila Water Philippine Ventures, said the company will invest in the improvement of water and wastewater services within its service area on Boracay Island.
In a statement, Boracay Water said the concessionaire has set aside P240 million to fund critical infrastructure necessary to improve services and adhere to the regulations set by the relevant government agencies.
For water supply, projects involve the rehabilitation of the Manocmanoc Reservoir and Bolabog Pumping Station, and the continual replacement of water pipes within the business unit’s water system, among other projects.
On wastewater management and environmental sustainability, Boracay Water plans to allocate P50 million for the ongoing upgrade of the Balabag Sewage Treatment Plant, with a focus on integrating the removal of biological nutrients in wastewater treatment.
The business unit is also set to spend P15 million for the implementation of the Phase 2 and 3 of Project Monsoon, Boracay Water’s free sewer connection program.
“For 2024, the business unit aims to connect 912 accounts to the available sewer network within 100 meters in compliance with the Sanitation Code of the Philippines,” Boracay Water said.
"Three (3) lift stations in Sinagpa, Diniwid and Dreamland will also be constructed, with a total cost of P16-million,” the company added.
Boracay Water said the capital expenditure for this year reflects its commitment to bolstering the island's long-term environmental sustainability, especially given the continuous arrival of tourists.
Based on the monitoring of the Malay Municipal Tourism Office, more than 2.1-million tourists visited Boracay Island last year.
For its 2021-2025 Service Improvement Plan, Boracay Water has allotted P1.1 billion to intensify water and wastewater service improvement in Boracay Island and ensure compliance to its service obligations.
