DSWD provides cash aid to flood-affected families in Northern Samar
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian has directed the agency’s Eastern Visayas regional officials and personnel to assist families in Northern Samar in recovering from the effects of flooding incidents caused by the shear line that struck the province back in November 2023.
Shear line is a rain-inducing weather system formed by the convergence of northeast monsoon and easterly winds.
In accordance with Gatchalian's directive, DSWD-Eastern Visayas personnel began distributing cash assistance to families in Northern Samar on Jan. 19 through the department's emergency cash transfer (ECT) program.
Officials from the DSWD-Eastern Visayas hope to finish the distribution of cash aid to 123,133 beneficiaries across the province by March 8.
The DSWD has set aside at least P374.3 million for the ECT of the affected families.
Since the start of the payout, DSWD-Eastern Visayas has distributed cash aid totaling P32.7 million to 10,781 beneficiaries.
