BOC warns against 16 forwarders linked to abandoned balikbayan boxes


The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has cautioned overseas Filipinos against using 16 forwarding companies for sending balikbayan boxes due to reports of abandonment and derogatory practices.

In a notice released on Thursday, Jan. 25, the BOC advised the public to carefully select a forwarding company to ensure the secure and timely delivery of their balikbayan boxes.

“To safeguard the interests and well-being of our fellow Filipinos, we would like to bring to your attention a list of forwarding companies, both foreign and local, that have been reported for incidents of abandoned balikbayan boxes and have derogatory reports against them,” the advisory read.

When it comes to safeguarding balikbayan boxes, the BOC has also issued the following advice:

Exercising caution when selecting a forwarding company, particularly those with a history of abandoning balikbayan boxes and receiving derogatory reports.

In the event of any issues with the shipment, the bureau said it is important to promptly report them to the relevant authorities to address the concerns and ensure accountability.

The BOC also urged to the public to opt for reputable forwarding companies accredited by Transglobal Incorporated (TI) to guarantee the safety and secure delivery.

Lastly, the BOC emphasized the importance of sharing information with fellow Filipinos to raise awareness and collectively protect the community and the integrity of balikbayan box shipments.
