Ticket checker slain in Maasin City

TACLOBAN CITY â€“ A ticket checker was shot dead near a police station in Barangay Combado, Maasin City, Southern Leyte, on Tuesday, January 23.

Police identified the victim as Marlon Gaviola, 49, of Barangay Maria Clara, Maasin City.

Initial investigation said Gaviola was talking to someone on his cellphone when he was shot by an unidentified motorcycle-riding suspect.

The gunman fled after the incident and police recovered eight bullet cases and a cellphone in the crime scene.

Police have launched a follow-up investigation.
