Mom of Filipino IDF soldier mourns his death in Gaza blast


The mother of a Filipino Israeli Defense Force soldier mourned his death in the war between Israel and Hamas.

Sergeant First Class (Reserves) Cydrick Garin was killed in a massive explosion perpetrated by Hamas militants in  Gaza on Monday, January 22.

Garin’s mother, Imelda, posted a photo of her son, Cydrick, on Facebook with three crying emojis at 11:16 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22.

“Nak paano kakayanin ang lahat ngayon wala kana...Nak i’m gonna missed you so much…I Love you nak...di kita makakalimutan...(Son how could I bear all of this now that you’re gone..Son, I’m gonna missed you so much… I Love you son.. I won’t forget you ),” Imelda said.

Many netizens condoled with Imelda and her post had 1,300 comments and 2,200 reactions on Facebook as of posting time.

The Israeli Embassy in Manila said on Wednesday, January 24, that Cyrdick was one of 21 IDF soldiers who died when Hamas fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) against them during their controlled-demolition on two buildings in southern Gaza.

Garin's mother is a native of Isabela residing in Tel Aviv, Israel while his father is a native of General Santos City, it added.

The embassy is facilitating the travel of the victim's father to Israel, it said.

"Israel shares the profound grief of Sgt. Garin's family and the Filipino community," the embassy said. "Our commitment is strong to support his loved ones during this challenging time."
