Firm vows uninterrupted power for Dinagyang

ILOILO CITY – MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) vowed uninterrupted power for the weekend highlight of the 2024 Dinagyang Festival that honors the Santo Niño or Child Jesus, following the New Year blackout from January 2 to 5 that caused massive inconvenience here.

"We want everyone to enjoy the Dinagyang Festival to the fullest. Our team is working tirelessly to distribute and provide reliable power supply throughout the celebration," said Engr. Bernard Bailey del Castillo, vice president for Network Development and Operations Group of MORE Power, this city’s sole power distributor.

Del Castillo said they are deploying 30 teams across strategically positioned areas here to ensure supply.

“These teams are well-prepared to respond to any electrical concerns that may arise, ensuring the continuous delivery of reliable power throughout the festival,” assured Del Castillo.

Ilonggos are concerned that the Dinagyang will suffer if another blackout occurs during the event from January 26 to 28.

MORE Power is closely working with the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) in monitoring supply here.

The company is also coordinating with the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI), the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), and the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (Iloilo CDRRMO) to facilitate immediate response in case of emergencies.

MORE Power urged caution during merrymaking, warning that balloons, which are sold to merrymakers, can be a hazard if they are entangled in power lines. “It can lead to unscheduled power interruptions,” MORE Power warned.

MORE Power reminded residents to unplug appliances and switch off circuit breakers before leaving their homes for the Dinagyang to prevent fire.
