Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, Jan. 24, clarified that she did not say anything about resigning from her post in 2025.
Her pronouncement came amid speculations that she would be stepping down from her post after saying on Tuesday that she was already campaigning for the next local elections.
I heard my brothers that they would not be running again. Maybe they would not run. So I'm here in front of you, campaigning because I will run in the next elections)," she said in her speech in the Visayan language.
In an ambush interview with reporters, Duterte said she "did not say anything" about resigning in her speech.
I think the confusion came from the piecemeal of people's appreciation of what I said. What I mean is that they removed one line from what I said so they can say their own interpretation)," she added.
Meanwhile, Duterte also said she and her previous elections' running mate, President Marcos, have not yet talked about the upcoming elections.
She also clarified that her Tuesday's speech, where she mentioned running for the next elections, had nothing to do with her supposed rift with House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
I don't know him that well. Our friendship isn't that deep to be able to speculate about him)," she added
