Bato Dela Rosa anxious he won't see his grandkids if he goes to jail

Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Wednesday, January 24, admitted he is afraid to go to jail as this would mean he wouldn’t be able to see his grandchildren.


 

Dela Rosa pointed this out even as he reiterated he is prepared to face the cases against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC) should it pursue the human rights charges against him in connection to his role as chief implementer of the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.


 

“Hindi ako takot na sabihin mo na meron akong na-commit na kasalanan. No. Takot ako na makulong dahil kawawa ang mga apo ko at hindi ko na makikita (I’m not scare even if you say that I committed a sin. No. I am afraid to go to jail because of my grandchildren that I won’t be able to see them),” Dela Rosa said in an interview over ANC’s Headstart.


 

The senator said he would not be able to bear the separation especially if he is incarcerated by the ICC at the Hague in Netherlands.


 

“Yun lang ang akin. Buti kung makulong ka lang dito sa Pilipinas, (paano kung) ikukulong ka doon sa The Hague (That’s just my concern. It would have been better if I am jailed here in the Philippines, but what if they put me to jail at The Hague),” he pointed out.


 

“Paano makakabisita ngayon ang apo mo? They will grow up lolo-less. Kawawa naman ang mga apo ko. I love my apo so much (How will my grandchildren visit me? They will grow up without their grandfather. I pity my grandchildren. I love my grandchildren so much),” he added.


 

Dela Rosa earlier slammed reports that the ICC has already concluded its investigation into the alleged human rights violations during former president Rodrigo Duterte's anti-drug campaign and that a warrant of arrest may be issued against him and other respondents in the case soon.


 

President Marcos, on the other hand, assured he would not allow the ICC to intrude on Philippine judicial matters, saying he does not recognize the ICC’s interference into the internal issues of the government.


 

"For the 100th time, I do not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC in the Philippines. I find it a threat to our sovereignty," the President stated.


 

"We will not assist them in any way. We are watching them to ensure they do not engage with any government agencies," Marcos stressed.
