Alex Eala hardly broke a sweat against Hungarian Fanny Stollár to march into the next round of the 2024 W50 Pune women’s singles tournament in India on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
The Filipina tennis ace, currently ranked No. 187 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), took a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory in the main draw of the tournament two weeks since crashing out of the qualifying round of the 2024 Australian Open.

Eala is back on track for a potential fifth ITF title as she shifts her focus on WTA No. 544 Zeel Desai of India on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m.
Holding a slim 3-2 advantage in the opening set, the 18-year-old Filipina went on to win three straight games to gain the upper hand.
The following set was no different, if not better, as Eala jumped to a telling 5-1 lead, leaving Stollár unresponsive in the beatdown.
Earlier, Eala barged into the next round of the doubles event with Latvian partner Darja Semenistaja.
The Filipina-Latvian duo will face American Jessie Aney and German Lena Papadakis in the quarterfinals on the same day at 5:30 p.m.
