5 suspects yield 414K shabu in Manila

Five drug suspects were arrested in separate buy-bust operations in Manila on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

In a buy-bust operation in Port Area, Manila, police arrested four suspects identified as Eugenie Kayca, 40; Shaina Panda, 36, both residents of Barangay 649, Baseco Compound; Jomar Montes, 29; and Abner Mangatog, 26, both residents of Maharlika Village, Taguig City.

The two female suspects were arrested after selling illegal drugs to a poseur buyer in Barangay 649, Baseco Compound in Port Area at 3:50 a.m.

Police said two more suspects were arrested along Rail Road Drive corner 25th Street in Barangay 653, Baseco Compound in Port Area at 4:40 a.m.

Six plastic sachets containing shabu worth P408,000 were confiscated in the two buy-bust operations.

Meanwhile, Michael Mendez, 38, was arrested for possessing three sachets of suspected shabu worth P6,800 and an improvised homemade gun or "sumpak."

He was arrested along P. Ocampo Street near the corner of Dian Street in Malate at 03:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

The arrested suspects will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, while Mendez will face an additional charge of violation of Republic Act 10591 for illegal possession of firearms.
