MMDA to close some roads in Manila for ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ kick-off rally on Jan. 28


The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Monday, Jan. 22, that some roads in Manila, particularly in the vicinity of Quirino Grandstand, will be closed for the upcoming “Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines)” kick-off rally on Sunday, Jan. 28.

It said that the road closures will start on Sunday at 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Roxas Boulevard from United Nations Ave. to Padre Burgos Ave., both sides of T.M. Kalaw from Roxas Boulevard to Taft Ave., both sides of P. Burgos Ave. and Finance Road, Ma. Orosa St., and Bonifacio Drive from Anda Circle to P. Burgos Ave. 

It advised motorists to avoid Rizal Park and all roads leading to the area and take the alternate routes.

Vehicles going northbound, from Roxas Boulevard, must turn right to Quirino Ave., or U.N. Ave., then turn left to Taft Ave. to reach the destination.

Vehicles going southbound, from R-10 going to Bonifacio Drive, going to Anda Circle, must turn left to Soriano Ave., turn right to Muralla St., turn left to Magallanes Drive, and turn right to P. Burgos Ave. to Taft Ave. to destination.

Trucks going northbound and southbound, such as trucks going to North Harbor, from SLEX, they must go straight ahead to Osmeña Highway and turn right to Quirino Ave., straight ahead to Nagtahan St., going to Lacson Ave., turn left to Yuseco St., straight ahead to Capulong St., and turn right to R-10 to their destination.

While all trucks coming from the area of Parañaque must turn right at Quirino Ave. to Nagtahan St., then Lacson Ave. to their destination.

The Bagong Pilipinas kick-off rally will start at 6 p.m. on Sunday, where President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to attend together with other government officials, celebrities, and other personalities.

To secure the safety of the event's attendees, the MMDA will deploy a total of 914 personnel, and ambulances, tow trucks, mobile patrol units, and motorcycle units, among others.

It added that traffic personnel will also be deployed to assist in traffic management and extend assistance to motorists and the general public.

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the "Bagong Pilipinas" is a campaign that serves as the overarching theme of the administration of President Marcos Jr., characterized by a principled, accountable, and dependable government reinforced by unified institutions of society to realize the goals and aspirations of every Filipino.
