A 50-year-old man posing as a lawyer was arrested by policemen on Saturday, Jan. 20 in Pasay City.
Col. Mario Mayames, Pasay City police chief, said the suspect, identified as alias Robert, was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. at Starbucks Blue Bay Walk located along Macapagal Boulevard, Barangay 76, Pasay City.
Mayames said the victim was identified as a certain Edgar Michael, 34, a web developer and a resident of Binangonan, Rizal.
Reports showed that prior to the arrest of the suspect, the victim asked assistance from the policemen who were on patrol in the area which led to the arrest of the suspect.
Mayames said the victim claimed that Robert, who was introduced to him and pretended to be a licensed lawyer, promised to help him with a case that he filed at the Binangonan Prosecutor's Office.
The city police chief said the victim claimed the suspect was able to get a total of P541,000 as acceptance fee.
The victim told the police that the suspect again demanded for another P50,000 for his acceptance fee and agreed to meet with him at the Blue Bay Walk on Macapagal Boulevard.
Mayames said the victim became suspicious and conducted a check on the suspect and found out that he was not a licensed lawyer.
