Coldplay rocks PH concert the eco-way

How the band champions sustainable touring with a little help from fans

British rock band Coldplay electrified the Philippine Arena on Jan. 19 with its two-day “Music of the Spheres” world tour, marking its return to live performances with a sustainable twist.

Kinetic floors and stationary power bikes were installed at the venue, where 100 fans of the UK band pedaled to generate electricity and promote renewable energy.

Attendees also wore plant-based wristbands, which were collected for recycling and recharging post-concert. PH scored 87 percent on the wristband recycling leaderboard, with Denmark and Japan leading with 96 and 97 percent, respectively.

Committed to championing sustainability, the rock band has partnered with One Tree Planted to partake in reforestation by planting one tree for every ticket sold during the tour.

The band also claimed that, whenever possible, all its merchandise is made of recyclable elements or natural fibers to help promote a circular economy.

Meanwhile, as Coldplay "has always done," 10 percent of its profits, from recordings to tours, go to environmental and social projects including ClientEarth, The Ocean Cleanup, and EarthPercent.
