Korean Basketball League Filipino import Rhenz Abando said he’s been showing signs of improvement following a horror fall that sidelined him for almost a month now.

The 25-year-old high flying wingman, who is in the country for Anyang KGC’s road game against TNT Tropang Giga in the East Asia Super League, shared that he’s feeling better now and making progress with his recovery from a fracture to his third and fourth lumbar vertebrae, a concussion and sprained wrist ligament injuries.
“Right now, mas okay nako. Parang almost two weeks nakong nagpapahinga, so siguro ‘di ko pa masasabi pero kailangan ko pa ulit magpakondisyon, pagbalik namin ng [South] Korea,” Abando stressed in an EASL presscon at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
“Sa ngayon medyo masakit parin eh, pag bumubuhat ako ng mabigat or pag naiisqueeze koyung likod ko, sumasakit parin sya and also ‘yong sa flight hindi ako masyadong [makaupo] kasi medyo masakit pa ‘yong likod ko,” he added.
Abando is still set to undergo a computed tomography scan procedure when he heads back to South Korea to determine how long he will stay on the sick bay for Anyang.
“MagpapaCT scan ako ulit tapos do'n ko masasabi kung kailangan ako makakabalik pero right now 'di ko pa po alam kung kelan,” Abando continued.
The former Letran standout will be reduced to a spectator when the Red Boosters (2-2) try to boost their bid for a Final Four spot against the Tropang Giga (1-4) on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the same venue.
“Masaya syempre, sobrang excited nako nasa Korea palang ako, pero at the same time medyo malungkot parin ako kasi gustong-gusto ko maglaro eh, pero sayang,” Abando added.
Abando reiterated that he didn’t want to talk about the incident which involved former NBA player Chinanu Onuaku and said he will stick to KBL’s ruling about the issue.
