In a press briefing on Tuesday, January 23, Police Major Rhojn Darell Nigos, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental police, said the female rebel returnee was a former political instructor of the Central Negros 1-Komiteng Rehiyon Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor (CN1-KRNCBS).

Nigos said the rebel returnee from Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental turned herself in to La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan and town police chief Police Major Sherwin Fernandez.

Her surrender came barely a week after the 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) encountered remnants of CN1 in Barangay Sag-ang in La Castellana on January 17 where two NPA rebels were killed.

“This is a big accomplishment, which is a result of the past encounter,” he added.

Nigos said they will check if the surrenderer has an arrest warrant or involved in past incidents in coordination with the Army and the Special Action Force (SAF).

He said she decided to return to the fold of the law due to the intensified anti-insurgency campaign of the Army and the police.

Last week, two NPA rebels also surrendered to the police in Talisay City and Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental
