Fire razes commercial building in Vigan

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – A fire razed a commercial building on Bonifacio corner Sikatuna Streets in Barangay 1 here on Sunday morning, January 21.

Senior Fire Officer (SFO) 1 John Richard Abubo, Vigan City Fire Station investigator, said the fire started on the first floor of the building owned by Arvin Chan, 46, businessman, from Barangay 1, this city.

The fire spread to the second floor of the building made of light materials.

Firemen from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Santa Catalina, San Vicente, Caoayan, and Vigan City and the BCS fire brigade and the JTC fire protection team joined hands to put out the fire at about 8 a.m.

A mopping-up operation was conducted until noon to ensure that the fire was put out. “To ensure that the fire is put out, we conducted a mopping operation until noon,” Abubo said.

He said that a follow-up investigation to determine the source and cause of the fire is ongoing. Cost of damage is yet to be determined.
