Quezon 2nd district Rep. David "Jay-jay" Suarez has been elected as new deputy speaker in the House of Representatives.
Suarez's designation to the plum post was confirmed during plenary session on Monday night, Jan. 22.
Suarez effectively filled up the deputy speaker's seat vacated by erstwhile Batangas 6th district Rep. Ralph Recto, who last week took his oath as new Department of Finance (DOF) secretary.
Monday also coincided with the return of sessions in Congress following five-week holiday break. Changes in House posts may only take place in plenary.

Romualdez, leader of the House of Representatives, is Leyte 1st district congressman.
Suarez served as deputy majority leader before he was tapped to replace Recto.
