Scattered rain showers to persist in some Mindanao areas due to LPA trough
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the cloud clusters being monitored outside the country’s area of responsibility developed into a low pressure area (LPA) on Sunday, Jan. 21.

Weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said during PAGASA's 4 a.m. forecast that the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
It is also not expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) in the coming days.
However, PAGASA said the trough or extension of the LPA may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos (SOCCSKSARGEN) in the next 24 hours.
PAGASA said flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas due to moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains to Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley.
n Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers may also prevail due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also warned of flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.
