House Deputy Minority Leader Basilan lone district Rep. Mujiv Hataman hailed on Sunday, Jan. 21, the accomplishments of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on the occasion of its fifth anniversary.
“As we commemorate this very important event, it is with a sense of reflection and optimism that we acknowledge the significant strides that BARMM has made in the pursuit of peace, development and genuine autonomy for the Bangsamoro people,” the lawmaker said in a statement.
Hataman, who was the sixth and final governor of the now-defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), noted the remarkable success of the BARMM.
This includes the drafting of crucial laws under the Bangsamoro Administrative Code, which defines the structural, functional, and procedural principles and rules of the region's governance; as well as the enhancement of infrastructure and the improvement in the delivery of government services to the Bangsamoro people.
“These accomplishments, though commendable, are but stepping stones toward the greater goal of realizing the aspirations of the Bangsamoro. The journey toward genuine autonomy is an ongoing process, and while we celebrate our successes, we must also acknowledge the challenges that lie ahead,” Hataman noted.
The Basilan solon also reminded citizens of BARMM on the importance of the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.
“The people of Bangsamoro have a right, and indeed a responsibility, to actively participate in shaping the future of their region,” Hataman said. “The essence of peace, democracy and self-determination lies in the active involvement of the people in the democratic processes that govern them.
“As we celebrate this milestone, let us look forward to a future where the voice of the Bangsamoro people resounds through the halls of governance, shaping policies that truly reflect their needs and aspirations,” the congressman stressed.
“Muli, isang tunay na mapagpalayang pagbati sa araw ng ito. May the coming years be marked by even greater achievements, unity and progress for the [BARMM],” he added.
(Again, a truly liberating greeting on this day.)
January 21 is recognized as Bangsamoro Foundation Day.
