10-day Vigan City Longganisa Festival under way

VIGAN CITY – The 10-day Longganisa (native sausage) Festival here opened on Thursday, January 18.

“Our annual Longganisa Festival is not just a showcase of our tasty longganisa delicacy but also an avenue to show our local talent,” Mayor Bonito Singson of this city said.

The event which has various scheduled activities is expected draw thousands of tourists, visitors, and “balikbayans” or returning Filipinos.

It opened with the Sangguniang Kabataan Day  where traditional games were played and Bigueno Day where residents who passed the board examination and won on national level sports competition were honored.

The Vigan Food Festival that ends on January 27 also opened on Thursday,  featuring native delicacies such as “bagnet” (deep fried crispy por belly), “sinanglao” (beef innards stew), rice cakes, and pizza longganisa and shawarma longganisa.

Singson on Agriculture Day on Friday, January 19, launched a scholarship grant for qualified farmers here aged 35 and below that will enable them to learn farming systems in Taiwan or Israel. Recipients who complete training and return to this city will be given a one-hectare farm to develop as a model farm.

Other events for the Longganisa Festival were Education Day (January 20) featuring a marching band competition and awarding of the most outstanding teachers here, LGBTQIA Day on January 21, Cityhood Day on January 22 featuring a longganisa cookfest and longganisa street-dancing competition, Social Services Night on January 23 featuring a motorcade and search for Miss Social Services 2024;

Metro Vigan Dancesports Club Night and Balikbayan Grand Ball on January 24 featuring the Balikbayan Night from Hawaii and California,  Vigan City Fiesta and ABC Night on January 25 featuring a concelebrated Mass, Vigan City Fiesta Grand Parade, Search for Miss Vigan 2024, and Bigueno Awards Night, Zumba Night on January 26 featuring an Ilocos food and wine festival and NGO and Partners Night, and the 1st  Banaoang-Vigan Marathon the following day, January 27.
