
New Year’s Eve celebration in Rizal Province was generally peaceful despite the 52 firecrackers-related and one stray bullet injuries recorded in the province.
Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO) Director Col. Felipe Maraggun said firecrackers-related incidents were recorded as of 11 a.m. on January 1. Of the figure, there were 54 individuals who sustained minor injury.
One incident of alleged indiscriminate firing in Antipolo City resulted in the wounding of a female victim who sustained a gunshot wound on her right arm and was immediately treated. She is now in a stable condition.
A total of P228,646 worth of illegal firecrackers was confiscated by the police in simultaneous operations all over the province.
Maraggun attributed the generally peaceful conduct of the New Year’s Eve celebration to the combined efforts of the local government units, the barangay peacekeepers and other force multipliers, in helping the police in manning the security points in their localities.
