143 firecracker-related injuries recorded in Manila

Operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) responded to a total of 143 firecracker-related accidents on Monday, Jan. 1.
According to MPD, 774 personnel were deployed on New Year's Day to ensure a peaceful celebration.
It said most of the recorded accidents transpired in Tondo and Sampaloc where 62 residents were injured.
Police said 25 victims were already discharged from Tondo Medical Center, while eight victims remain admitted as of 9 a.m. on Jan. 2.
In line with its "Ligtas Paskuhan" operation, it also conducted 22 checkpoints in main thoroughfares and three inspections of firecracker stores in the city.
Police said five firecracker vendors were arrested, which led to the confiscation of various firecrackers.
Among the confiscated firecrackers were 17 pieces of 500 rounds of "Sawa," 19 packs of "3 Star," 15 pieces of "Mabuhay", five pieces of "Five Colors", six pieces of "Victory Lights", a "Jumbo Fountain-Flower Festival", two pieces "Jumbo fountain-Mount Bulusan", 145 packs of "Kwitis", three pieces "Jumbo Silver", three pieces of "Super Glittering Silver Fountain", two pieces "Mount Everest", 38 pieces of 100 rounds "Judas," a bundle of "Sky Rocket", 96 packs "Pla-Pla", 100 packs "Kingkong," five packs of "Piccolo," 166 pieces of "Whistle Bomb", two boxes of "Fart Bomb," two boxes of "Popop," a box of "Colorful Chrysanthemum," a box of "Shen Qui Cai Guan," five boxes of "Black Spider," two plastics of "Lusis," 133 pieces of "Special Bawang," and 30 pieces of "Kabasi."
All the seized firecrackers had an estimated value of nearly P80,000.
No one was arrested for illegal discharge of firearms, and no stray bullet victims were recorded as of 4:30 p.m. on Monday, police said.
Meanwhile, the MPD Covert Monitoring Team conducted a drone security patrol inside Rizal Park in Ermita, Manila on Monday, where more or less 3,000 individuals visited the park, as of 5 p.m.
