The religious item was found at the gate of the church a few hours after it was stolen.
Bonilla said the suspect was arrested after a witness identified him as the one who took the monstrance.
The incident was discovered by the church on Saturday night which prompted the temporary closure of the chapel until further notice.
The monstrance was sealed in a bag when it was recovered by the church on the morning of New Year’s Eve.
The suspect denied stealing the monstrance.
Yanson said he was at home when the incident happened.
Bonilla said Yanson had been accused of theft but complainants did not proceed on filing cases against the suspect.
