Girl, senior citizen drown on New Year's Day

BACOLOD CITY – A five-year-old girl and a senior citizen drowned in Hinoba-an and Manapla in Negros Occidental on New Year’s Day.

Police Capt. Jaime Dequillo Jr., deputy chief of the Hinoba-an Municipal Police Station, said the young victim went swimming with her relatives at the adult swimming pool in a resort in Barangay Alim, Hinoba-an during a family outing.

However, they failed to notice that the child transferred to the kiddie pool alone where she drowned.

Dequillo said that people tried to revive the victim and was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead.

The adult victim drowned in a resort in Barangay Tortosa, Manapla. According to the police, the 65-year-old victim was found by his live-in partner lifeless on the seashore.
