Filipinos in Japan were "unharmed" in the massive earthquake that struck the country on New Year's Day, President Marcos bared.

Marcos disclosed this as he conveyed sympathy to Japan, offering the Philippines' help on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of the magnitude 7.6 earthquake in Japan on New Year's Day," the President said.
"We are in close collaboration with the Japanese government to secure the welfare of our kababayans, who thankfully remain unharmed," he added.
Marcos said the country stands ready to assist Japan after the massive earthquake. He also expressed that the Philippines stands with Japan amid their "shared climate challenges within the Pacific Ring of Fire."
"We have made the offer to assist in any way that we can. In the face of shared climate challenges within the Pacific Ring of Fire, we stand united with Japan and stay ready to provide support from the Philippines," the Chief Executive said.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), no Filipino was among the eight reported casualties in the strong earthquake, adding that they continue to monitor all Filipinos living and traveling in the most affected areas.
