CEBU CITY – The Police Regional Office-7 reported on January 2 that the number of fireworks-related injuries in Central Visayas decreased this holiday season.
The Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7) said that the number of firecracker victims dropped by 49 percent.
From December 21 to January 1 this year, 41 FWRIs were recorded in Central Visayas compared to the same period in 2022 with 80.
Police Lt. Col. George Pelare, spokesperson of PRO-7 chief Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, said that reports from city and provincial police directors indicate that the celebration of the New Year was generally peaceful.
Pelare said only minor firecracker-related incidents were recorded during the New Year’s revelry and there were no reports of stray bullet victims.
“This is all the result of our proactive stance. Even our regional director and the command group were on the ground to inspect and make sure that the plans were implemented well,” said Pelare.
Pelare credited policemen in the region who still reported for duty even when they were given holiday break.
