BACOLOD CITY – This city and Negros Occidental logged 13 fireworks-related injuries as of January 2, the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here said.
John Michael Gabriel Zaragoza, public information officer of the CLMMRH, said that eight were from Bacolod and five from the province. Twelve were male and one was female, he added.
Zaragoza said that four victims suffered eye injuries and nine sustained hand injuries, two of whom had mangled hands.
They were injured by Kwitis, Kamara, Candle Bomb, Whistle Bomb, Triangulo, and Five Star, according to Zaragoza.
Most of them were active users of firecrackers while the others were passive victims, bystanders or were just hit by sparks from the firecrackers, he said.
Zaragoza said they are continuously educating people in terms of the risks of the firecrackers as he appealed to the public to be careful.
He said they will continue to monitor firecracker-related incidents until January 6.
Meanwhile, police seized abandoned firecrackers worth P7,000 in Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, on December 31. Confiscated were a pack of Kwitis, four Blow G, six packs of Big Candle, two Whistle Bombs, and 30 Triangles.
