The 9-year-old Alegado topped the Girl Park Open Advanced category after tallying 86 points in her best run which was enough to outscore Americans Nina Ye (85.33), Joey Yarbrough (85) and Elle Warne (76.67).
Despite her small frame, Alegado bucked all odds against her older rivals. The Los Angeles-based skater previously bannered the Philippines in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China last September, where she became the youngest member of the national team in the quadrennial meet.
The young sensation was the favorite to win in the continental spectacle despite being the youngest to compete and to qualify into the final round of the women’s park event. She, however, finished seventh in the finals.
She competed in Asiad alongside Jericho Francisco (men’s park), Renzo Mark Feliciano and Motic Panugalinog (men’s street) and Margielyn Didal, who failed to defend her women’s street title.
Alegado started her skating journey at 5 years old, and has collected many accolades including a bronze medal in the Vans Skatepark Competition, the gold medal in the Exposure Skate Intermediate Bowl, and the overall champion Mini Ramp Girls division of the CASL.
