PH still cyclone-free in next 5 days — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, Jan. 19 said no tropical cyclone is expected to develop near or inside the country’s area of responsibility in the next five days.

However, weather specialist Benison Estareja said PAGASA will continue to monitor the cloud clusters surrounding Mindanao.

PAGASA said the shear line and northeast monsoon will remain the country's dominant weather systems over the next 24 hours.

“Humihina na ang epekto ng shear line o yung linya kung saan nagtatagpo ang malamig na amihan at mainit na easterlies sa malaking bahagi ng Mindanao kung saan nagkaroon ng minsang malalakas na ulan kahapon (The effect of the shear line or the line where the cold northeast monsoon and warm easterlies meet is weakening in large parts of Mindanao where there were some heavy rains on Jan. 18),” Estareja said.

PAGASA continues to warn those in Caraga and Davao regions of possible flash floods or landslides due to occasional moderate to heavy rains.

“Samantala, ang northeast monsoon o amihan bahagya ring humihina at nakakaapekto na lamang sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon (Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or amihan is also slightly weakening and only affects a large part of Luzon),” he added.

Cloudy skies with light rains may prevail over Cagayan Valley and Aurora due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains may persist in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, and the rest of Central Luzon.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
