The Pasig-Marikina River Basin and the Cagayan River Basin were selected as the top priorities for the Japan-funded flood control projects in the country, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain said the projects will assist the government in improving its current water preparation and creating flood control measures.
He said the project will also contribute to the department's INFRAgenda 2028, an action plan covering 2023 to 2028 aimed at solving the country's flood problem.
The DPWH stated that the project will require a year and six months to finish, with three stages: data collection, a plan for the flood management, and feasibility assessments.
The department and JICA stressed that gender equality and women empowerment will be prioritized during the initiative.
Some government entities involved in the project include the Metro Manila Development Authority, the Department of Interior and Local Government, and the Department of Science and Technology.
