Man dies in tricycle-truck collision in Ilocos Sur


CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur – A 51-year-old man died when his tricycle collided with a truck on the national highway in Barangay Bulbulala, Santiago, this province, on Thursday night.

Police identified the victim as Jerry Mariano, a resident of Barangay Apatot, San Esteban, Ilocos Sur.

Investigation said Mariano evaded a sign board on the road shoulder but lost control of his tricycle and hit the truck driven by Joegene Ocampo, 44, of Guagua, Pampanga.

Due to the impact of the collision, the motorcycle detached from its sidecar and Mariano was thrown away and sustained serious injuries. He died at the hospital.

The truck driver was unhurt. The victim was reportedly under the influence of liquor when the accident occurred.  

Meanwhile, a man, Gosnell Paranal, from Barangay Supo, Tubo, Abra, died when his motorcycle crashed into a commuter van on the national highway in Barangay San Antonio here. 

Paranal’s back rider, Jessie Cruz, 29, was injured and taken to the Candon General Hospital.

The van driver and his passenger were unhurt.
