The Parañaque city government announced that free vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) is now available in the city’s different barangays.
Parañaque Mayor Eric Olivarez said the HPV vaccine is given in a two-dose schedule with an interval of six months.
Olivarez said the City Health Office (CHO) is calling on all girls aged 9 to 14 to coordinate at their nearest health centers for a schedule and requirements to avail vaccination against the HPV.
The CHO said the HPV vaccine is safe and one of the most effective ways to protect all females against cervical cancer.
The CHO also said that vaccination against the HPV can prevent nine out of 10 cases of the most high-risk strain of HPV (serotypes 16 and 18), the number one cause of cervical cancer.
