PAGASA warns of flash floods in Mindanao due to rains brought by shear line
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Jan. 18, warned the public in the Mindanao area of threats from flash floods or landslides that may occur in times of moderate to heavy rains.

In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Mindanao in the next 24 hours due to the shear line---an area where the cold northeasterly winds and warm easterlies converge.
Meanwhile, aside from the shear line, PAGASA said the weather system affecting Luzon and Visayas remains the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan."
In Cagayan Valley and Aurora, PAGASA said cloudy skies with light rains will be felt due to "amihan."
The northeast monsoon may also bring Metro Manila and the rest of the country partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, said PAGASA.
