Metro Manila experiences coldest morning yet this 2024
The air temperature dropped to 20.1 degrees celsius (°C) at the Science Garden in Quezon City, on Thursday morning, Jan. 18, the lowest recorded temperature for Metro Manila so far since the start of the year.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) recorded the 20.1°C temperature at around 5 a.m., surpassing the previous record of 20.2°C on Jan. 14.
Meanwhile, the lowest temperature recorded in Baguio City on Thursday was 13°C.
The city’s lowest temperature recorded this year was 12.4°C on Jan. 17.
Based on PAGASA's daily temperature monitoring, the other eight areas with the lowest air temperatures on Thursday were Basco, Batanes (17.4°C); Casiguran, Aurora (18°C); Tanay, Rizal (18.1°C); Abucay, Bataan (18.6°C); Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (19.2°C); Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (19.6°C); Clark, Pampanga (19.9°C); and Mulanay, Quezon (20°C).
PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja attributed the surge of the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," to the cold weather.
However, he said the amihan may weaken between Thursday and Sunday, Jan. 18 and 21, and result in "slightly higher" temperatures.
Estareja noted that the effects of amihan may re-strengthen on Sunday evening and last until the middle of next week.
