Award-winning Filipino cinematographer Romy V. Vitug has passed away. He was 86.

Romy's death was confirmed by his daughter, Dana Vitug Taylor, on social media on Jan. 18.

Dana did not disclose the reason behind his father's demise. There is no information available yet regarding the details of the wake.

Her full post:

"This morning at 6:11pm Philippine time, my TATAY, Romy V Vitug, passed away. He was known as the Legendary Cinematographer in the Philippines world of cinema, but we have known him as our Dearly Beloved Tatay.

"Please pray for me and my Family that God's peace and comfort be upon us as we grieve and mourn for the loss of our Dearly Beloved Tatay.

"Tatay, we will surely miss you. We love you so much! This is not a goodbye but rather until we meet again!"

Luke Miraflor, a fellow cinematographer, shared some of his cherished memories of Romy.

"Si Sir Romy ang isa sa nag interview sa akin para makapasok sa Filipino Society of Cinematographers.

"Naalala ko na medyo nahihiya pa ako dahil wala pa ako masyadong projects nun panahon na iyon pero hindi ko makakalimutan yun sinabi niya sa akin nun napansin niya na kinakabahan ako.

"Bata ka pa at marami ka pang magagawa kaya wag lang hihinto".

"Maraming salamat direk at patuloy ko aalahanin yun sinabi niyo. Rest in Peace."
