Fire victims in Alabang receive assistance from Muntinlupa LGU


The Muntinlupa City government provided food and supplies to families affected by a fire that happened in Barangay Alabang on Jan. 17

According to the Muntinlupa City Fire Station, the fire started at 7B Ilaya Street in Alabang at about 7:03 p.m. 

Mayor Ruffy Biazon said based on assessment, there are now 70 families that were affected by the fire from the initial 50 families estimated by the fire station.

Biazon visited the fire incident area on Jan. 17 and 18, and met with families that are now temporarily staying at the Alabang Elementary School covered court. 

Investigators estimated that the fire caused damage amounting to P280,000. 

The city government provided hot meals to the fire victims. Each family received a food package consisting of 50 kilos of rice, sardines, tuna, mackerel, sausage, corned beef, meat loaf, coffee and sugar. 

Each family also received a kitchen kit which includes a cooking pot, fry pan, cooking utensils, eating utensils, stove, water dipper, basin, pail and water container. 

They also got sleeping kits containing blankets, mats, mosquito nets and folding bed, and family kits containing bath towel, slippers, t-shirts, underwear and shorts. 

The city government also provided hygiene kits containing toothpaste, toothbrushes, cotton buds, talcum powder, nail cutter, face towel and deodorant.

Biazon said the financial assistance that will be given to each family is now being processed. 

Under an ordinance, families will get financial assistance depending on their classification on whether they are owners or renters. 

The Muntinlupa City Council is expected to pass an ordinance providing financial assistance to the fire victims during its regular session on Monday, Jan. 22, according to Majority Floor Leader Raul Corro.
