The Manila City Council (MCC) announced on Thursday, Jan. 18, that Dr. Leilani “Lei” Marie Lacuna will remain president of the Liga ng mga Barangay after getting the majority vote from 896 city barangays.

Lacuna has been holding the position since the beginning of the 12th City Council in July 2022.

MCC acknowledged her contribution to the 12th City Council enacting a total of 141 city ordinances and 917 city resolutions as of December 2023.

She principally authored City Ordinance 8976 mandating all barangays within the territorial jurisdiction of the City of Manila to create their respective tourism committees, with the help of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila (DTCAM).

The MCC said Lacuna is also the chairman of the Committee on Barangay Affairs.

(I humbly express my gratitude to the entire Council of Manila for once again welcoming and recognizing me as ex-officio of our City Council. In my first term as the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, you made me feel and treated me equally as one of you. I also want to thank all of you for the support you showed me in the last league election), Lacuna said in her speech.

Meanwhile, the MCC passed Resolution No.1 series of 2024 to recognize and certify Lacuna as an ex-officio member of the city council.

The MCC said this is her second term as president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, which makes her part of the distinguished ex-officio members of the city council.

The resolution was sponsored by the majority leader, Councilor Ernesto “Jong” C. Isip Jr.
