President Marcos has approved specific budget items that aim to help promote the well-being of the members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Marcos said this as he invited high-ranking officials of the AFP and the Philippine National Police (PNP) for a New Year's Call in Malacañan on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
With an increased 2024 budget for the Department of National Defense (DND), the President said he is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of the uniformed personnel and their families.
"Beyond duty, we prioritize their daily lives," he wrote in a Facebook post.
"I have approved a specific budget for rice subsidies and Tertiary Health Care at the AFP Medical Center for advanced medical services and overall wellness support," he added.
According to Marcos, this commitment is evident in his support for the Revised AFP Modernization Program and the Pension and Gratuity Fund, which ensures financial stability for military and civilian personnel.
Among those who attended the New Year's Call in the Palace were AFP chief General Romeo Brawner Jr., Air Force chief Lt. Gen. Stephen Parreño, Army chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, and Navy chief Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr.
In July last year, President Marcos said the implementation of the AFP Modernization Program was on track after revealing it faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"What we have scheduled was slightly delayed because of the pandemic, but now we are proceeding back to our established schedule," he said.
"Hopefully, we'll catch up in a year— maybe two— we will already be back to where we were supposed to be at the time before the pandemic," he added.
