The goings-on at the House of Representatives can be must-see TV at times.

Luckily, the House is set to launch Congress TV, wherein all happenings and activities of Congress would be broadcast over the state-owned PTV-4.

ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo, the House deputy majority leader for communications, likened the project to the United States' (US) Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network or C-SPAN.

"Kapag naghi-hearing, diskusyon, hindi lang sa US pati sa Korea, nakukuha, nagsusuntukan pa nga yung mga senador, congressman. Ganun din ito. So para makita ng taumbayan," Tulfo, also a popular broadcast journalist, said.

(Whenever there are hearings, discussions, not just in the US but also in Korea, they get covered, sometimes the senators and congressmen's fights are even captured. It's the same case here. So that public could see it.)

"Basically ito yung coverage ng PTV na ieere sa isang channel ng PTV lahat ng activities ng Congress, especially sa mga hearings, sa mga everyday activities natin...at tsaka yung mga sessions," he further said  of Congress TV.

(Basically this is PTV coverage wherein all activities of Congress, especially the hearings, our daily activities, and the sessions would be aired on a channel of PTV.)

Tulfo said something similar is already being done on the House of Representatives' official Facebook page, which livestreams some hearings and plenary sessions. But not all Filipinos have smart phones or Internet access, he noted.

"Yung mga old school, yung mga matatanda sa bahay na lang (Those who are old school, our elderly opt to just stay at home) so they can watch what we are doing here, what’s happening in Congress at this very hour," he said.

The deputy majority leader also says Congress TV can be a way for Filipinos to determine whether or not the House members have delivered on their promised legislation.

Tulfo hinted that the project will be launched soon. "Hopefully pag-open ng session sa 22nd meron na (Hopefully when sessions reopen on the 22nd, it will have begun already)."
