BUTUAN CITY – Seven New People’s Army (NPA) fighters surrendered to the police in Caraga on Monday, January 15.

Police Regional Office-13 Regional Public Information Office (RPIO) chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said these communist guerillas decided to return to the fold of the law to have a peaceful life, be with their families, and be productive in their communities.
“They realized the useless life in the armed struggle…at pagud na rin talaga silang katatakbo (They are tired of running) and they wanted to live a peaceful life,” said Ometer, quoting the surrenderers.
The PRO 13-Regional Operations Division (ROD) said the surrenderers turned over various firearms and they are under debriefing.
Documents are being prepared for their enrollment to the ECLIP program.
PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft hailed the counterinsurgency efforts of Caraga lawmen, particularly facilitating the surrender of NPA rebels who want to return to mainstream society.
“Their surrender shall inspire the remaining CTG leaders and members to do the same and embrace the path towards lasting peace.”
