President Marcos has expressed his desire to strengthen the Philippines' ties with Brazil, particularly in agriculture, trade, defense, and climate change.

Marcos said this as he accepted the credentials of Brazilian Ambassador-designate Gilberto Fonseca Guimarães de Moura in Malacañan on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 16.
In his remarks, the President said he was pleased to accept the Brazilian envoy's credentials, noting that Brazil has been one of the Philippines' valued partners in technical cooperation, agriculture, trade and investment, defense, and environmental protection.
President Marcos highlighted that he hopes for further collaboration in those areas.
"With Ambassador Gilberto Fonseca Guimarães de Moura, we are set to intensify collaboration in trade, technical cooperation, defense, and climate action," he said.
Meanwhile, Marcos expressed his support for Brazil's hosting of the 30th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2025.
"Brazil is a powerful voice in marshaling collective action towards the protection of the environment and addressing the effects of climate change, which is the foremost existential threat to our species today," he said.
The Chief Executive likewise reaffirmed the Philippines' commitment to continued collaboration and support within the principles of the United Nations and other multilateral fora.
"We also count on our continued reciprocal support for each other within the ambit of the United Nations and other multilateral fora," Marcos said.
"I wish you an enjoyable and fulfilling stay here in our country, and I hope you will experience the warm hospitality of the Filipino people," he added.
In response, the Brazilian ambassador emphasized his country's commitment to overcoming challenges and expanding collaboration with the Philippines.
The Philippines and Brazil established diplomatic relations in 1946 and will celebrate 78 years of ties in July.
