The suspect, Jimboy Pasacan, admitted the heinous crime and the grieving family of the victim, Jocelyn Samillon, said they could not forgive him for the gruesome incident.
“Nangayo pa siya og pasaylo. Hilasa niya! Dili gyud makapasaylo, nganong pasayloan man na kinabuhi man na gikalas (He has the guts to seek forgiveness. How dare him! Why would we forgive him when he took the life of my daughter),” the victim’s mother, Gemma, told reporters on Tuesday, January 16.
Gemma brought the body of her daughter to the Police Regional Forensic Unit in this city to determine if she was indeed raped as what the suspect admitted when he was interviewed by a radio station here.
She narrated that Jocelyn left home on Sunday night. January 14, to attend a disco in Barangay Anopog, Pinamungajan.
Jocelyn was accompanied by Jimboy and the suspect’s sister when they headed to the event.
Gemma said they discovered the next day that Jocelyn was unable to go home. The family tried to contact her but her cell phone could no longer be reached.
The family thought that she decided to sleep over in her grandparents’ house but they were told that she was not there.
The family checked with some of Jocelyn’s friends. The victim’s friends said that Jocelyn was accompanied by her boyfriend when she went home after attending the disco. But her boyfriend told her family that Jocelyn didn’t go with him.

The family proceeded to the police station and reported her disappearance. The family sought help from the barangay captain to help find Jocelyn.
Jocelyn was found sprawled lifeless in a canal around 11 a.m. on Monday, January 15. Her body was covered with banana leaves. Jimboy was considered as a suspect after it was learned that he accompanied Jocelyn in going home.
Police found out that Jimboy fled to Dumanjug town, Cebu where he was eventually arrested.
The suspect admitted that they had a drinking session during the disco. On their way home, the suspect asked the victim to have sex with him.
The victim refused and warned Jimboy that she would tell her parents about his actuations. When Jocelyn tried to shout for help, the suspect admitted punching the woman in the abdomen thrice that rendered her unconscious.
The suspect admitted that after raping her, he choked her to death for fear that he would be reported.
Jocelyn’s family was shocked to find out that Jimboy was behind the crime. They said Jimboy and Jocelyn were close and would sometimes eat in the victim’s house.
Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, commended the Pinamungajan Police Station for immediately solving the crime.
