Malabon gov't implements intelligent tutoring system

The Malabon City government on Monday, Jan. 15, started implementing the Intelligent Tutoring System that will help in the learning needs of Malabueno students at the Malabon City Library, in Barangay Catmon.

Malabon City Administrator Alexander Rosete and Malabon City Library Nova Lubong led the launching of the e-learning center at the library which has 12 tablets installed with different programs related to the system.

According to the city government, the Intelligent Tutoring System provides feasible innovative ways for the students to be more pro-active in literacy and numeracy ability, and give them personalized guidance for their individual needs and pacing in learning.

It will help improve the experience of students by achieving personalized learning, adaptability, feedback mechanism, engagement, diagnostic assessment, knowledge retention, interactivity and accessibility, it added.

Lubong told the Manila Bulletin that each tablet has applications run by artificial intelligence (AI) where each student, Grades 1 to 10, can access modules and quizzes about their lessons for about 45 minutes per day in the library.

Around 18 students from Catmon Integrated Schools joined the pilot run. They were taught how to use the system.

In her message read by the city administrator, Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said the system is a new step to improve the education of the Malabueno learners.

"Ang Malabon City Intelligent Tutoring System ay isang proyektong naglalayong pagtuunan ang pag-unlad at kahandaan ng ating mga kabataan (The Malabon City Intelligent Tutoring System is a project that aims to focus on the development and readiness of our youth)," she said.

"Sa tulong ng moderning teknolohiya, layon nito na palakasin ang kanilang kakayahan at kaalaman ( With the help of modern technology, it aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of students)," Sandoval added.

"Higit pa sa isang simpleng systema, ito ay isang simbulo ng ating commitment sa edukasyon at kaunlaran ng kabataang Malabueno (More than a simple system, it is a symbol of our commitment to the education and development of Malabueno youth)," she said.

She encouraged the students in the city to use the tutoring system.

The inauguration of the tutoring system is part of the city government's "Walang Tulugan, Serbisyo Caravan" where various city government programs were held simultaneously in different parts of the city for two days.

The caravan, which started on Monday until Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 16, aimed to bring the city's services including financial aid and school kit distribution, legal services, clean up drives, and others, closer to the residents.

The activity was held in celebration of  Sandoval's birthday on Jan. 14 as well as the city's various achievements last year.
